Digital Product Manager Lead (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 8 Months

Location: Corsham/Remote

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.

We are looking for-

  • A DDaT Lead Product Manager who has extensive experience in working in one or more Agile frameworks to deliver high quality outcomes that meet business requirements and user needs.
  • They have a clear understanding of the difference between product development and bespoke / customisation and make informed decisions about the best approach in a given situation.
  • They understand and appreciate the range of skills different people bring to multi-functional teams and can operate as a servant leader to ensure the teams can deliver at pace and to a high quality standard. They are adaptable and can lead multiple teams through change with a positive attitude.
  • They are experienced in working directly with customers of a range of backgrounds, providing positive support in helping them learn how to get the best from an agile delivery capability. They have some experience in a mixed environment where agile interfaces with other delivery methods (e.g. Waterfall) collaborating to arrive at pragmatic compromises.
  • They bring a positive attitude and are a willing learner that contributes to the wider product management & DDaT community. 

As a Digital Product Manager Lead, your main responsibilities will be:  

  • Ensure the overall outcomes are aligned to product vision and user of resources are optimised to deliver best value.
  • Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement of the delivery team
  • Mentor and coach more junior product managers to help build their skills,
  • Functional management of product managers.
  • Maintain the product vision and ensure product value is assessed in-line with this vision
  • Develop and execute product strategy that keeps key stakeholders informed, aligns to product vision and ensure customer value is prioritised
  • Communicate the product vision & strategy and progress towards outcomes both internally to the team and externally to stakeholders
  • Work with problem owner to ensure problem is fully understood and product solution meets their need
  • Be a role model for team members in self development and Agile working
  • Provide information needed to enable users to make the most of the products the its life cycle, e.g. ensure service management has timely access to product and information so they can support it
  • Ensure quality is fundamental by helping the teams seek out and use best practice
  • Be an active participant in the product management community, supportive of its development and maturing in how MOD uses DDaT roles
  • Ensuring work is delivered in such a way that it will not cause failure to pass a service assessment
  • Call out poor practices and blockers and lead resolution of them
  • Support building and maintaining a psychologically safe place for delivery to operate in. 


  • Proven track record of delivering complex and or large scale digital products or services using agile.
  • Evidence of leading more than 1 multi-functional team with at least 1 more junior product manager working for them
  • Experience of creating, influencing, and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Evidence of how they have developed their own skills as a product manager and how they have helped others to develop their own.
