Lead User Researcher – Inside IR35

 

Contract Term: Until 31/03/24 with potential for extension

 

Contracting Authority: Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

 

Location: Hybrid – London or Manchester

 

As a User Researcher lead, you will be leading and aligning user research activities across the digital transformation programme in DDaT Team, co-ordinating and prioritising the work across-multiple strands of activity.

As a Lead User Researcher your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Identify opportunities to conduct user research activities, where they add significant value to our users and those of the DDaT team.
  • Plan, design and carry out research activities with users that help teams to gains a deep understand of service problems and accessibility issues.
  • Working collaboratively and in an inclusive way by involving users from across the organisation in user research to take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to service design and delivery.
  • Leading user research sessions on a regular basis, testing both high-level concepts, and aspects of product/service design, as they are formulated, designed and changed.
  • Providing quality assurance of all research outputs in line with Government Digital Service Standards, created across the team, mitigating or escalating risks when necessary.
  • Collaboratively analyse the findings of user research to identify common themes and pain points and communicate these with clarity and confidence to stakeholders.
  • Contribute evidence from user research to inform service propositions and roadmaps, balancing user needs with business and technical requirements.
  • Explore, test and implement various user research tools and methodologies to identify those best suited to support the work of the team.
  • Develop and establish an active user research community.

 

Essential:

  • Experience of understanding and applying multiple user research methods correctly for different life cycle phases and advising others on these methods.
  • An understanding the diversity of users and the need to make services usable and accessible for everyone.
  • Experience of communicating insights from research in a clear and impactful way that drives change in  the design of services and informs policy and proposition.
  • Experience of establishing an effective user centred design culture in a team and supporting them to embed user centred design practices into their agile workflow.
  • Ability to convince senior stakeholders about the benefits of adopting a user-centred approach, based on evidence.
  • Public Sector / GDS experience.
