Project Support Officer x2 - (Inside IR35)

Contract Term: 6 Months

Contracting Authority: Defra

Location: Hybrid – occasional visits to the nearest Defra office / Remote Working

The role of the Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project’s objectives. The Project Support Officer enables the smooth running of the project by supporting the project manager through the operation of project management processes, and the co-ordination of business management actions and activities on their behalf.

As a Project Support Officer your main responsibilities will be


  • Implement and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
  • Establish and maintain a RAID log, keeping the project manager aware of the status.
  • Prepare project performance reports, commissioning workstream leads for updated information.
  • Ensure project organisational tasks are carried out efficiently.
  • Manage professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake action tracking and chasing following meetings and support in setting up and arranging project boards.


General Skills


  • Planning and scheduling - Assist with and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
  • Monitoring and reporting - Assist in maintaining project controls and in producing project reports, including primary responsibility for RAID.
  • Admin - Responsible for project file management using robust version control. Organise key project meetings and provide secretariat support.
  • Resources – Support the PM with resource forecasting in line with the activity plan
  • Stakeholder - Assist with maintaining the stakeholder log for internal and external stakeholders. Act as the focal point for project responses to external requests for information.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills

  • Evidence of planning and prioritising effectively own work and work of others to meet deadlines, remaining calm to deliver results at pace
  • Experience of project support delivery
  • Experience of working with senior colleagues, engaging with them effectively and having the ability to foresee and manage arising issues
  • Evidence of being proactive and being a self-starter
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as a team player
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Confident in the use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint online/ similar shared storage functionality.
  • Using project artifacts such as RAID logs
  • Experience in the writing of risk logs


Desirable Skills


  • Any recognised project management qualification eg Prince 2, APM.
  • Agile PM skillset
